Gbais Obou is an Ivorian artist born in 1992. He is passionate about drawing and painting since childhood. Practically all of Obou Gbais’s artistic research and production is oriented towards the 2002 political-military crisis in Côte d’Ivoire, particularly on the aftermath of this crisis and his traumatic memories. His work is oriented towards the human condition. He has chosen to deform the faces of his characters because for him, one cannot speak of war, trauma, suffering and oppression without mental and physical deformation and transformation.
Gbais Obou est un artiste ivoirien né en 1992. Il est passionné de dessin et de peinture depuis l’enfance. Pratiquement toute la recherche et la production artistique d’Obou Gbais est orientée vers la crise politico-militaire de 2002 en Côte d’Ivoire, notamment sur les séquelles de cette crise et ses souvenirs traumatiques. Son travail est orienté vers la condition humaine. Il a choisi de déformer les visages de ses personnages car pour lui, on ne peut parler de guerre, de traumatisme, de souffrance et d’oppression sans la déformation et la transformation mentale et physique.
