Born in 1981 in Burkina Faso, Hyacinthe Ouattara is a mainly self-taught visual artist who lives and works in France. He has several experiences in workshops and has followed a training in live drawing.
Ouattara first pictorially represented the human body in a dreamlike, ghostly and childlike way before entering his entrails and focusing his work on the anatomy of cellular tissues through what he calls “human cartographies”.
Material, texture, colour and – occasionally – patchwork are of great importance in his pictorial work. His drawings are spontaneous, gestural and allow him to question the human being in all its complexity. His installations question the notions of balance and imbalance through suspension and memory. Since he focuses on textiles, he develops a reflection on the organic, the ambivalence between appearance and disappearance, intimacy as well as identity in the broadest sense. His sculptures in twisted and knotted textiles allow him to represent this obsession with the organic and to work on the notion of link.
His work has been exhibited in Paris, Berlin, Dakar, Ouagadougou, Accra, Luxembourg and Kargoorlie.
Né en 1981 au Burkina Faso, Hyacinthe Ouattara est un artiste plasticien principalement autodidacte qui vit et travaille en France. Il a plusieurs expériences en ateliers et a suivi une formation de dessin modèle vivant.
Ouattara représente d’abord picturalement le corps humain de manière onirique, fantomatique et enfantine avant d’entrer dans ses entrailles et de concentrer son travail sur l’anatomie des tissus cellulaires à travers ce qu’il appelle les « cartographies humaines ».
La matière, la texture, les couleurs et – ponctuellement – le patchwork ont une grande importance dans son travail pictural. Ses dessins, quant à eux, sont spontanés, gestuels et lui permettent de questionner l’humain dans toute sa complexité. Ses installations, quant à elles, questionnent les notions d’équilibre et de déséquilibre via la suspension ainsi que la mémoire. Depuis qu’il se concentre sur le textile, il développe une réflexion sur l’organique, l’ambivalence entre apparition et disparition, l’intimité ainsi que l’identité au sens large. Ses sculptures en textiles torsadées et nouées lui permettent de représenter cette obsession de l’organique et de travailler la notion de lien.
Ses travaux ont été exposés notamment à Paris, Berlin, Dakar, Ouagadougou, Accra, Luxembourg ou encore Kargoorlie.
