Biography :

Born in 1992 in Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo where he lives and works, Cédrick Sungo is a visual artist with a degree in metal sculpture from the Institute of Fine Arts and the Academy of Fine Arts in Kinshasa. Member of the collective Vision Total (VITO) which aims to promote contemporary artistic practices, he has participated since 2012 in several residencies and group exhibitions in Kinshasa and abroad.

Inspired by Sammy Baloji, his work is an ode to recovery and is representative of the Kinshasa art scene. He use iron, concrete, weaving, spinning art and metal (beaten copper) to create his works of art and to denounce the toxic relationship between mankind and its environment. His original creations challenge us on the ubuesque exploitation of Katanga, sacrificed on the altar of devastating consumption.

Né en 1992 à Kinshasa en République démocratique du Congo où il vit et travaille, Cédrick Sungo est un artiste visuel diplômé en sculpture sur métal de l’Institut des Beaux–Arts et de l’Académie des Beaux–Arts de Kinshasa. Membre du collectif Vision Total (VITO) qui a pour but la promotion des pratiques artistiques contemporaines, il a participé depuis 2012 à plusieurs résidences et expositions collectives à Kinshasa et à l’étranger.

Inspiré par Sammy Baloji, son travail est une ode à la récupération et est représentatif de la scène artistique kinoise. Il utilise le fer, le béton, le tissage, l’art du filage et le métal (cuivre battu en croisette) pour créer ses œuvres d’art et dénoncer notamment la relation toxique qu’entretient l’homme avec son environnement. Ses créations originales nous interpellent sur l’exploitation ubuesque du Katanga, sacrifiée sur l’autel d’une consommation dévastatrice.
